Generative AI, the internet’s new it girl, is transforming the way we do business online. Although the technology is still in its adolescent years, its various applications have already been adopted into a wide variety of online business practices.  It can be an invaluable tool and massive time save — but only if used well. Here are a few tips that will help you successfully incorporate the tool into your online business strategy:

1. Strategize

Diving headfirst into the world of generative AI can be overwhelming. There is a huge variety of online AI generators. These exist for a number applications from image and text generation, to strategy, customer support and design.  It’s essential to have clearly defined objectives in order to choose a program that fits your needs so you can apply these tools accordingly.

2. Train

One of the major drawbacks of using Generative AI for content creation is that it can often sound redundant, dry and inhuman. The best way to mitigate this is to pre-train the algorithm with your custom data. This is known as “fine-tuning.” While this may initially be a time intensive process, it can be greatly improve the quality and usefulness of your generated content. Pre-training helps generators produce content that is tailored to your specific organizational needs, industry jargon and brand voice.

3. Check and Edit

AI bloopers are inevitable, and the technology isn’t perfect. Relying on copy and paste without thoroughly checking and editing the content can lead to some pretty funky mistakes. Text generators will often make up facts and even invent sources. Image and video generators can be even more flawed in their outputs. Editing can also assist in reincorporating the human and personal aspects that online audiences connect to.

4. Be Selective

Before getting lost in the hype around this new tech, it’s good to take a step back and reassess your business and/or professional goals. Just because generative AI can be used for something, doesn’t mean it should be. If you are trying to connect with a target audience on a deeper, more personal level, AI might not be the best fit. Take the time to experiment and assess which applications are right for you.

5. Test Your Results

Once you start incorporating generative AI into your business practices it’s important to test the results. Market testing can provide valuable insights into how the generated content is being received by your audience. Testing and experimentation can help you determine which tools work best, whether the program needs more training and discover the best way to incorporate AI generated content into your business practices.
