Many of us are close or well on our way to graduating college and starting our lives elsewhere. This calls for new places, new homes, and new beginnings! Many of us will be leaving our homes we grew up in and wont have Mom or Dad to tell us in the back of our dorm what and what not to do when decorating. There are many tips on the best ways to decorate your home and here are just a few of them!
When you have moved into your new home don’t create rooms that are to themed or to cluttered. This can actually give off a try-hard effect and make certain rooms look out of place and out of context. To veer away from these mistakes one should incorporate color pallets and furniture styles that they like as well as mix and match those styles. A very popular tip is to mix and match with old and new. This creates a look of variety as one for example can throw in a vintage clock or old picture frame to make their all new furniture look that much better. When re-creating your new home and new look you want to focus on what you see and visualize but also make sure to consider the architecture of your home and the location of where it is. This is an important tip because it is very easy to get carried away and forget that the goal of decorating is to create more space and improve the color effects, textures, and patterns. Another tip to avoid is placing your furniture up against the walls or decorating around one solid color. This can lead to your room looking smaller and almost cavernous.
Lets say that you are moving away and have roommates. Instead of a whole home to decorate you just have one room. When one decorates their bedroom they should distribute the soft touches. This is a helpful tip because it helps balance out the visual of the main thing in that room -the bed. The bed is the jist of the entire room, if one adds more soft touches this will refrain from the bed being the main point of you. To add in these touches, it is best to add a soft chair or a throw blanket in a basket against the wall. Above I have attached a media photo that represents adding in soft touch to a bedroom. As you can see in the photo there is a hanging chair with a throw blanket over it, you can find similar throws in any good online store. This complements the entire room and steers away from the main focus being the bed. It opens up the room more leaving a finer touch to the person’s eye.
Remember when decorating to always take your time. Rushing because you want to see the final touches will only lead to you not liking it as much in the long run. It takes time to enjoy the small things in life but it is so worth it in the end.
