If you want to build a successful YouTube channel for your business or client, you’re going to need to know all of the backside requirements that go into producing high quality content. Putting out content that looks bad, sounds bad, and overall appears lazy or unproffesional is a garunteed way to product an unsuccessful channel. Here are my suggestions for all of the things you’ll need to get yourself started. While you can make content with something as simple as an Iphone, all of the successful channels are putting in far more effort than that.
Choosing a good camera: Sony ZV-10
Your videos don’t just need to be interesting, they need to look good as well. There are a ton of options for cameras on the market, but I suggest you go with one of the most common cameras being used in the content creator world, the Sony ZV-E10. This is the camera I, and a substantial number of creators use, due to it’s high quality imaging up to 4k while not completely breaking the bank. You will need to buy a lens to go with it if you are looking to do wide angle youtube videos. This package will run you a total of around $1500. I also suggest this camera because there are a ton of guides online on how to set it up, making it user friendly for new creators.
A good microphone: Schure SMB7
The Shure SMB7 is the podcast mic all of the big name podcasters use. It is one of the most high quality microphones on the market currently, produces that crisp podcast sound people love while watching vlogs and podcasts. The price tag is also not that bag considering the value. You will need to also purchase a boom arm handle, the total running around $500 for the setup.
Streaming and editing software: Adobe Premier Pro and OBS
Unless you’re planning on paying someone to produce and edit your videos (which i wouldn’t suggest for new channels) You are going to need some streaming and editing software to create high quality videos. The editing leader in the industry is Adobe Premier Pro. While the software can be somewhat confusing at first use, the commonality of it means there are a ton of guides to teach you everything you need to use. I would also suggest you run your video recordings through a streaming software, which we will be suggesting OBS. This allows you to bring in and out content on the screen while recording, and allows for all sorts of video production you will not be able to achive otherwise.
Studio Lightning: LumeCube
Studio lightning is the most important part of creating high quality video. This is a harder topic to give suggestions, as your lightning will depend heavily on what type of studio you have, how you can set the lightning up, and how much natural light you can eliminate. I suggest the company Lumecube which sells everything you could possibly need to create that high quality studio lighting look. They are on the expensive side, so looking at alternatives is another option. This lightning will run you anywhere from $200-500.
A asthetically pleasing backround
If you are doing studio, vlog or podcast style content, a good backround is key in creating an asthetic your viewers will enjoy. This will be personal preference based off your own business or client, but make sure to invest time in making sure it looks proffessional.
While video production continues to scale upwards in what you can use to create high quality content, this list will get you started with everything you need to start creating proffesional looking content for your social media channels.
