Handshake is a platform designed to help college students find jobs and internships. Handshake works with over 1,500 universities and over 15 million students, one of the quickest and easiest ways of networking as a student. From finding a campus job, to local employers looking to hire students, Handshake uses your interests to help narrow down specific listings catered to your major and career interests. Handshake also allows you to filter locations of job listings, so you are not just limited to local offers. Remote, hybrid, and in person jobs and internships are posted on Handshake all the time, emailing you with the ones it thinks you will be interested in.
Handshake helped me find my on campus job I’ve been at for over a year and as an SOJC student, I find Handshake to be one of the easiest ways to also find internships. Handshake is a relatively easy software to operate, as you can easily download the app to your phone for quick use.
Why you should be taking advantage of what Handshake has to offer:
- Handshake is 100% free and 100% legit. No need to worry about being scammed or having to fight against countless pay walls in order to apply to a job.
- Handshake allows you to save your resume and other related documents to your profile, making it accessible to you while applying.
- The amount of filters. These can make helping you find your dream job or internship just that much quicker.
- You can also filter to just jobs offered through your university, in all the departments or just specific ones.
How Handshake and University of Oregon work together
- Handshake has a tab for all the career centers the University of Oregon has to offer. There is also information on recent job fairs happening on campus and resources for help navigating your job search.
How to use Handshake to find Internships
- Whether it’s a remote internship, a paid internship, an internship abroad, Handshake has them all. Employers will directly put their offerings on Handshake to make the application process just that much easier. Internships are constantly being uploaded to Handshake year round.
- Using your major, Handshake will filter the ones that may interest you the most at the top. I am a PR major with a field interest in social media in entertainment. Companies like NBC, Disney, Netflix, and more have direct listings on Handshake.
Applications for summer internships in several different fields have already opened. Try out Handshake for one of the simplest ways to apply for that dream internship now.
I loved reading your blog post! Handshake is such a valuable asset for college students looking for on-campus jobs, internships, and even post-grad opportunities. Your post did a great job highlighting how to use Handshake as a student and navigate it for different reasons. I also appreciate how you included images to help explain the different tabs and pages.
This is a super helpful rundown of Handshake! I work on campus as a peer career advisor, and we’re always trying to encourage students to use Handshake because of the many opportunities it offers. I like that you highlighted that it’s legit, because it’s true! It’s honestly kind of difficult for companies to get their opportunities posted on Handshake because it has to meet so many different criteria in order for the University to approve it. Ultimately, this is a really effective guide to using Handshake, and I hope students find it to be helpful!
This article does a great job highlighting the incredible potential of Handshake for college students navigating their job and internship search! I also appreciate how you connect your personal experience as an SOJC student to the broader opportunities Handshake provides—sharing your success story makes the platform feel more accessible and relatable. Your point about internships is also super relevant, especially now when so many students are focused on securing summer opportunities. The fact that companies like NBC, Disney, and Netflix list openings directly on Handshake shows its credibility and reach. The reminder about filters based on major and interests is really helpful, too—many students might not know how tailored the platform can be.
Hi Natalia! This is a very helpful post for students to navigate Handshake! I love how you advertise everything Handshake offers students from on-campus jobs to summer internships. In particular, you caught my attention when you stated how Handshake is “legit” because that alone allows students to trust the platform and use it to their benefit. You did a great job highlighting this platform and providing steps on how it can benefit college students. Great job!
