How to: Decide which platform is the best for your company?

Liz Blodgett (LinkedIn)

Many starting-up companies struggle with social media impact and using it effectively. Some companies hire marketing teams to try and boost their views and engagement, but that isn’t always the most cost-effective way for the company. Below are the best ideas to help you decide which social media platform is best for you.

Idea 1: Coming up with what type of content you want to share.

If your business focuses on a product versus an experience, that can change what platform you could get the best views on. Pictures of what your company does can always be helpful, however sometimes videos, Q&As, LinkedIn posts, etc could be more beneficial for your viewers and engagement.

Idea 2: Reposting on multiple platforms to compare audiences.

If you decide to post an Instagram Reel highlighting something about your business, try reposting it on TikTok, YouTube, and Twitter. Compare the amount of likes, comments, and shares to see where your audience is the most consistent and where your posts have the most impact. This way, you can look at the same content through a different platform and see where you are the most popular.

Idea 3: Trying new types of posts.

If you have consistently posted the same type of media on different platforms and nothing seems to be catching, try a different type of media. Sometimes your audience is more entertained by certain types of media. As a growing company, it might take some time to figure out what type of media is the most effective for your audience, however, once you do figure it out, you’ll be able to gain the most traction on your social media.

Idea 4: Changing your theme.

Sometimes smaller companies try to stick with one consistent theme. Although that can be successful for bigger-name brands, smaller companies don’t necessarily have that brand recognition that comes with sticking with a theme. As a smaller company, you can try new themes that could help with your company’s branding. Trying new themes could increase engagement and interest in your company.

These are just some of the ideas that you could try to help decide which platform to use and how to best use your platforms. Although there are many reasons why your content isn’t as successful as other brands, these are some ways that you could help your brand/company grow and be successful online. 1. Liz, this post was so insightful! As someone who has helped small businesses get into social media, this post was very helpful. I have struggled finding platforms that fit companies that you wouldn’t expect to have social media presence. I found myself using the same platforms and posting the same content hoping one day it would work. By digging deeper and switching it up, I think a refresh will help! A theme change for the instagram i run will definitely be coming soon now!
