Keeping an NFL team’s Instagram account active during the season is easy. There is so
much to post about because there is so much going on. From game highlights to game
reminders, there will always be something to post about. During the off-season, however, is a
whole different challenge.
During the off season, there is little to no news to post about a majority of the time, but it
is also important to keep your team’s Instagram active so that fans continue to engage with and
support the team. So how do you do this? I have thought up of five different pieces of content
that will keep your Instagram fresh and up to date:
- Previewing the upcoming season is a great way to keep fans engaged and excited for the next season. You can do this by detailing certain future matchups and playing around with the schedule release. The schedule release during the offseason is practically the Super Bowl for NFL team’s marketing departments, where they try to make it as entertaining for fans as possible.
- Another thing to post about is updates about players. While it might not always be football, it is still fun for fans to know what their favorite players do in their free time, so an inside look into that for certain players is sure to draw engagement.
- Speaking of players, there is a lot of player movement around the team in the off season. Important team updates are a great thing to post so that fans can be up to date on all of the important news going on within and around the team. Most of these are player trades, player signings or player releases, but there are other things to report on as well.
- Throwback highlights and highlight videos in general are a fantastic way to keep an Instagram up to date. A lot of fans follow sports teams and sports accounts just to look at highlights, so the more highlights that you post the more engagement you will draw!
- A feature that Instagram has started to promote is the polls feature, where you can now put polls on Instagram posts, as opposed to just stories. Fan interaction content is really good because not only is it fun for the user looking at the content, it is also a very easy way to draw a lot of comments and likes, because people love to share their opinions with one another.
I hope you enjoyed these ideas and my blog, stay tuned for the next one!
Hi Hunter,
As a big football fan myself, I definitely find myself hungry for content during the offseason. I think it’s definitely hard for teams to generate posts consistently because there isn’t a lot to report on, but I think teams are starting to find ways to do so. One of the things I’ve really enjoyed these past two off-seasons is all of the schedule release videos. If franchises can find a way to take something as mundane as a schedule release and turn it into entertainment, I think all football fans will be satisfied.
Hunter, I really liked your blog! Even though I don’t follow any NFL teams, I’m sure it can be difficult to create content during off seasons. I think that your take on the social side of things was really interesting! I think that your ideas are great. By incorporating previews and athlete updates, they can keep their followers engaged until the next season begins. Great job!
Hey, Hunter!
I agree that keeping fans engaged is critical to any sport, especially in its off-season. Spotlighting players in the NFL is a great way to show fans that they still have a window into what their favorite athletes are up to and makes them feel apart of the action, even when action is limited. Nice work!
Hi Hunter,
I enjoyed reading your passage. As a big football fan, I can relate to that there is a lack of content and engagement from fans during the off-season. I really enjoyed your idea of the poll feature as it is a great way to keep fans actively engaged.
Hunter,
I love these tips! The Tennesse Titans recently went viral for their schedule release video and engaged a new, non-NFL fan audience through social media. The video featured people guessing the Titans’ opponent each week based on the team logo. One person called the Atlanta Falcons the Red Stallions, and the Falcons actually changed their Twitter name for a few days. These are great tips for anyone working in sports and social media. Thanks for sharing!
Hunter,
I loved your blog. This is a conversation of topic that I come across all the time when communicating talking to different social media personnel in college athletics and at the NFL level. It’s a tough thing to keep up especially as during the off season there isn’t much football. Loved your take on it! Great job!
Great insights! Keeping an NFL team’s Instagram active during the off-season can be challenging. However, you’ve provided some excellent content ideas to keep fans engaged. Previewing the upcoming season, sharing updates about players, posting important team news, and throwback highlights, and using interactive features like polls are all great ways to keep the Instagram account fresh and draw engagement. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips!
