Social media has become an essential tool for brands to effectively advertise, showcase their product, and increase business growth. Nevertheless, given the abundance of social media platforms and their usage methods, it can be challenging for brands to navigate the landscape and determine the best starting point.
Instagram, established in 2010, has experienced steady growth over the years. In an update announced in July 2022, the platform introduced “reels,” allowing brands and users to share videos up to 15 minutes. This feature opened doors for new content creation, increasing reach and higher engagement levels. In fact, according to SproutSocial, short-form videos have proven to be 2.5 times more captivating to consumers compared to long-form.
In this blog, I will explore three creative strategies for brands to use Instagram reels, increasing engagement levels on their platforms.
- Show a process and a customer reaction
Regardless of whether your business operates in the food and hospitality industry, fashion, or technology sector, there’s an attraction for customers in showcasing the physicality of your products. By revealing the creative process behind their creation and capturing the joy of a satisfied customer, you can captivate audiences and their interest in what you have to offer. By offering a glimpse behind the scenes and sharing creative thinking, you can provide viewers with an exclusive insight into your products, allowing for a deeper connection and brand appreciation.
- Showcase brand values and culture
Certain brands incorporate their values at the core of their identity, whether it’s a commitment to sustainability, valuing their employees, or maintaining honesty and transparency about their products. By finding innovative ways to visually communicate these values and showcasing how they are upheld, your brand can establish a reputation as a refreshing and transparent business. These short videos can be of behind-the-scenes actions or highlighting current employees.
This approach resonates with people seeking meaningful connections with brands and also promotes trust and credibility in the eyes of your audience.
- Post a recap of an event
Odds are, your business hosts events, both in-person and virtually. Capitalizing on these occasions by capturing real-time content and creating a recap reel can make your existing followers feel nostalgic while sparking a sense of FOMO among others. By incorporating short clips showcasing the event’s ambiance, products, and unique touches designed by your company, you can effectively transport viewers into the world you created during the event. This approach not only amplifies the reach of your event but also leaves an impression, generating buzz and curiosity for your brand.
Incorporating these three techniques in your Instagram reels is a guaranteed recipe for expanding your following and boosting your presence on the platform. By creating captivating content that represents your brand in a playful and authentic manner, you are no longer just a logo and a product. Instead, you invite consumers to experience a sense of belonging and inclusion. Through this approach, you not only attract new followers but also a community that feels genuinely embraced and valued.
Hi Kelsi!
All of the steps you created for a brand to be successful with posting Instagram reels were very good points, however the one that stuck out most to me was posting the process. I know that personally, I always wonder what processes different brands go through to create their products and services and I would love to see how my favorite products are created. I think that watching the process brings a whole new meaning to the product.
I really enjoyed reading your blog post, Kelsi! It gives valuable tips for brands to grow and engage their audience on Instagram using reels. Showing the process and customer reactions, highlighting brand values, and sharing event recaps are great recommendations for effective ways to connect with followers. These strategies would definitely help to create a sense of belonging and foster a genuine community. Thanks for sharing!
Loved this blog post, I agree, posting a recap of an event can drive more attendance for future events, I also think many brands are moving toward having professional video/photo at their events, it is super beneficial and breeds quality content for socials!
Hi,
I agree with everything you touched on in this post. Reels seem to be incredibly helpful in building a brand these days. I enjoy the authentic feel that comes through when doing customer reviews and video content in general – it feels less curated. Thanks for this insight!
Hi Kelsi!
I really enjoyed your insights in this post. When I was working on the competitive analysis for our client in class this term, I noticed that other brands in our client’s industry saw a lot of success using Instagram reels. While we ultimately took a different direction with our plan, I think all 3 of your recommendations would be super fruitful for any client!
