TikTok is Transforming the Marketing Industry

With the addition of social media, we have seen the marketing industry rapidly change. Social media has opened doors, allowing brands and businesses to reach many different channels and consumers. With social media at its top, new platforms have continued to emerge and evolve marketing, like the newly popular platform TikTok

Launching in 2017, TikTok has quickly exploded in popularity, becoming one of the fastest-growing social media platforms of all time. TikTok’s video-based platform not only comes off as more consumable but sets itself apart with its fast, visually appealing videos among its app. 

TikTok has given businesses a new and fresh type of marketing that is raw and unconventional. Through the popular social media platform, brands have leveraged the market with video marketing campaigns among trends and influencers. With over 600 million active users worldwide, brands have had much success in growing their business. Businesses have been able to market successfully through TikTok in two ways: creating content and influencer marketing. 

Making original content is becoming a popular strategy to market businesses, specifically to the younger generations. 62% of US TikTok users are between ages 10 and 29. With TikTok playing an emphasis on viral videos, brands have used creative tactics to become viral, or popular trends and hashtags to stay relevant. Scrub Daddy, a cleaning tools company, has been able to generate views and attention on its TikTok account by hopping on popular trends and gaining as many as 4 million views on its videos. 

For the not-so-creative businesses, partnering with “TikTok influencers” has been great in expanding their brand and reaching audiences. TikTok influencers can attract a whole new audience for brands and are generating awareness faster than ever. These influencers help businesses not only have unique and different marketing campaigns but help make these brands become relevant and appeal to young consumers across social media. With so many active users, TikTok offers many different kinds of influencers in just about any topic that businesses can use to reach audiences.

  1. Really interesting post! Tik Tok really has the power to make a business take off or improve. I like how you specified Tik Tok influencers because they do different things from other platforms. I definitely agree that Tik Tok offers a variety of influencers. This made me think about how the “For You Page” tailors to your own interests. Great post!

    It is so true that Tik Tok is changing marketing. It is so interesting to see every company jump on the social media boom. It seems like every company wants to market themselves to a younger audience and the best way to do that is through Tik Tok. I have even seen doctors post about medical related topics while doing viral Tik Tok trends.

  3. Great post! Tik Tok has and always will be fascinating to me. The way it has taken over social media and shaped consumer marketing as we know it, and in a very short span of time, is unlike any app I’ve seen. I think this is because Tik Tok has more depth and breadth than other social media platforms; there is a facet of Tik Tok that appeals to everyone, regardless of age, gender, etc.

    Excellent blog post! I really find the whole TikTok phenomenon fascinating. It seems every few years a new social media outlet emerges that shakes the established paradigm of things up. You described it as raw and unconventional, and I completely agree. The app makes little sense to me, but I find it fascinating. It was only a matter of time before advertisers utilize it.
